Polls show state of marriage as issue for Americans

Polls show state of marriage as issue for Americans
More than half of voters opposed to equal marriage rights believe the issue is "very important" for this election, compared with 29% of marriage backers, according to the Pew Research Center. Meanwhile, a CBS poll found 30% of those surveyed believe gay and lesbian couples should have the right to marry, and 28% say couples should be able to have civil unions; the pro-marriage response is the highest since the question was first included four years ago.
